Principal's Message Good Evening Andover Star Parents,

This is your Principal, Mr. Duncan, with what we have happening OVER at Andover for THIS week as we return to school after our Thanksgiving Break.

A photographer from Strawbridge Studios will be on the Andover campus this week on Wednesday, November 29th to photograph the Fall Retake pictures for students that were absent or just missed our Fall School GROUP Pictures.

The student safety monitoring tool called “Gaggle” will begin monitoring elementary students starting tomorrow, November 27. Gaggle works online in the background and alerts if students show signs online of certain concerning behavior and helps us to proactively identify students who are struggling, provide support where needed, and foster a safer school environment.

Our SAC/PTA meeting has been moved to THIS Tuesday afternoon, November 28th so as not to conflict with other planned activities later in the week.

This year’s Field Day was rescheduled to this Thursday, November 30th. I’m reminding Parents that if YOU want to volunteer on our campus , you MUST be approved through our District ADDitions online process.

Thank you for all the amazing participation and fundraising that you have done so far to help support our PTA for the 2023 Andover Color Run. The actual event takes place this Friday, December 1st on campus during Specials BUT students have to fundraise to be able to participate in the Color Run. Fundraising closes this THURSDAY, November 30th, so this is the LAST week. Don’t miss out on all the fun prizes and experiences yet to be earned! One lucky, hardworking student will win either an Apple iPad OR a Nintendo Switch.

Our 2nd grade field trip to Dr. Phillips for the Nutcracker Ballet performed by the Orlando Ballet Company on the stage of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts is happening Thursday, December 14th! This field trip experience is part of the Young People’s Performance Series, designed to provide FREE access to ALL students and is part of a series that introduces all 2nd graders to Ballet, and all 3rd-5th graders to Orchestra. Curriculum resources have been designed by OCPS Teachers as well as Orlando Ballet and our amazing Music Teacher, Ms. Martins, is providing specific instruction during her classes BUT she can’t do it alone. Research suggests that artistic experiences like this are far more effective when students are introduced to topics or themes associated with the show IN advance, so if you have a moment talk with your children about the upcoming event and ways you can help support this opportunity. Who composed the music for the Nutcracker, what instruments are used and why, is ballet a sport OR a dance?...LOTS of ways to expand the knowledge of our students and not JUST during our Music classes.

This week in our Café we are serving:
Monday-Macaroni and Cheese, Green Beans, Apple Slices
Tuesday-Chicken Nachos, Lettuce/Tomato Cup, Tangerines
Wednesday-Hamburgers, Sweet Corn, Orange Slices
Thursday-Chicken & Broccoli Bowl, Brown Rice, Strawberry Cup
Friday-Garlic French Bread Pizza, Marinara Dipping Sauce, Apple Sauce

And that’s all for THIS evening, I hope you have a VERY starry night! Goodbye for now.
