Principal's Message

Good Evening Andover Star Parents,

This is your principal, Mr. Duncan, with what’s happening for your students this upcoming school week, OVER at Andover.

Parents, this is a crucial week as it marks the end of our school year. Our Testing coordinator is diligently assisting any students who may not have been at Andover for our school-wide testing last week, ensuring that we complete their standardized assessments this week.

Please remind your children they won't need their backpacks on the last two days of school: Thursday, May 23rd and Friday, May 24th. Backpacks brought will be stored in the front office for pick up at dismissal.

I’m reminding you about the significant impact of using the Andover Donation Bin in our Parking lot. Your contributions of outgrown, used clothing or small appliances help the environment and support activities for our students and staff. Your participation is a testament to our strong community spirit, and I am genuinely grateful for that!

During the summer, we’ve had some exciting improvements on the Andover campus. The installation of our new playground, both for primary and secondary grade students, is currently underway. Additionally, we’re installing two new chillers that should allow the temperature in our building to be more consistent and regulated, providing a comfortable learning environment. Finally, we are thrilled to announce the expansion of a beginning orchestra program for 4th/5th grade students next year. This is an opportunity to enhance our overall music program and foster our students' love for classical instruments. We’ll send out a survey to gauge parents' interest and see if you’d like your child to have the opportunity to learn how to play the violin, viola, or cello starting next year. We can't wait to see these changes' positive impact on our school community!

Summer Camp, with "Discover After School, is back for students in grades K-5 from May 28 to August 2 at the Andover Campus. The camp offers a safe and fun environment for nine weeks. The weekly fee is $160, which includes a Friday field trip. If you choose for your child not to participate in EVERY field trip, the rate is adjusted to $104.The first week will have a 'Hollywood' theme. They fill their available camp slots every year, so don’t wait to sign up.

Andover is introducing the 'Jumpstart to Kindergarten' Summer Program, a valuable opportunity for ALL incoming Kindergarten students enrolled for the 2024-2025 School year. This program, running on June 3-6, 10-13, 17-20, and 24-27, is specifically designed to help your child transition smoothly into the kindergarten environment. We provide bus transportation for eligible students to make it even more convenient for you. Please note that your child MUST be enrolled at Andover for kindergarten in the fall to participate.

This last week of this school year, we’re serving the following meals in our Café:

Monday-Glazed Chicken Wings, Green Beans, Apple Slices

Tuesday-Chicken Tenders, Steamed Corn, Tangerines

Wednesday-Hamburgers, Vegetarian Baked Beans, Apple Cinnamon Cup

Thursday-Buttermilk Pancakes w/Sausage, Diced Pear Cup

Friday-Pepperoni Pizza, Marinara Dipping Sauce, Orange wedges.

That's all for tonight…AND for all Sunday messages from me during this school year. Please encourage your children to read, to read anything during the summer, or to listen to audiobooks so they can be ready to learn at the start of next year. I’ll restart messages on Sundays as we prepare for the beginning of the 24-25 school year. Congratulations to our 5th-grade students as they prepare to transition to Middle School!

Until next school year, I wish you and your family many starry nights! Goodbye for now.
